The Browns defense has locked down opponent’s passing attacks

The Browns have a no fly zone through two games

The defense has played more than good enough for the Cleveland Browns to be 2-0 if the offense hadn’t imploded in Pittsburgh. One of the biggest differences this year compared to last is the limitation of the big play. According to PFF, the Browns are second best in lowest completion percentage on throws over 10 yards only allowing 26.3 percent.

Last year there were so many games where the defense would blow coverage and leave a pass catcher wide open for an explosive touchdown. The Browns’ corners and safeties have been glued to the hips of their opponents and making the tackle when a catch is made to limit the yards after the catch.

Denzel Ward has looked like the player who earned an extension after a down season last year. According to PFF, Ward has allowed only two catches for 14 yards when in single coverage this year on 21 snaps. If this defense can continue to play to this level and the offense figures things out it will be a fun season.
