It probably won’t be long before Cam Akers is on another NFL team as the Rams look to trade the struggling running back, but the value that they get in return for him may not be much. Despite being a former second-round pick who has shown flashes of potential, Akers probably won’t yield the Rams a whole lot – especially considering he’s in the final year of his contract.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated talked to one rival executive who says Akers’ trade value is “zero.”
You can read the Rams’ declaration that they’re trying to figure things out with running back Cam Akers as an “offer us anything” call to the rest of the NFL. One rival executive sums Akers’s trade value up this way: “Zero.”
Jordan Schultz reported Tuesday that several teams have expressed interest in Akers, including the Browns, Raiders, Ravens and Buccaneers. But that doesn’t mean they’re willing to offer the Rams much in return for him.
Akers rushed for 29 yards on 22 carries in Week 1 and was a healthy scratch in Week 2, so he hasn’t exactly helped himself by playing well this season.
Based on Sean McVay’s comments, the Rams don’t see a path to Akers remaining with the team so it’s just a matter of time before he’s moved.
