Florida surging for in-state 4-star safety after visit

Florida’s big win over Tennessee might have some recruiting implications.

Florida’s big win over Tennessee this weekend might have some recruiting ramifications attached to it.

Among the many recruits in town for the SEC opener was four-star Mandarin safety [autotag]Hylton Stubbs[/autotag], a priority recruit for Florida. He looked on as true freshman Jordan Castell helped lead the defense to an incredible night.

Coming into the game, Tennessee was averaging over 250 rushing yards per game. The Gators held the Vols to just 100 yards on the ground Saturday. Of course, the standout moment for Hylton — a defensive back — was the interception made by Devin Moore, a sophomore cornerback who saw significant playing as a true freshman before getting hurt.

247Sports’ Blake Alderman spoke with Stubbs after the game, and it’s safe to say that the Gators are surging up his list right now.

“I love what Coach Corey Raymond is doing right now,” said Stubbs, “playing a lot of young guys and putting them out there seeing what they can do. I love that. It looks like I can go in there as a true freshman.”

Although Stubbs hasn’t officially named a top three yet, he said that Florida would “definitely” be one of those teams. He’s likely to stop by Gainesville again for the Florida State game and there’s also talk about heading up to Jacksonville for the Georgia game.

Stubbs is already incredibly high on Florida, but the Gators still need to lock him in. Additional trips might help land the top-100 recruit.

247Sports has Stubbs ranked No. 65 overall on its composite rankings. He’s also the sixth-best safety in the class of 2025 and the 11th-best recruit out of Florida.
