Kyle Monangai runs his way to be the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

Kyle Monangai wins the Big Ten’s top offensive honors for the week.

Kyle Monangai’s strong performance for Rutgers football in Saturday’s win earned him the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week.

This now marks consecutive weeks where Rutgers has a player earning weekly Big Ten accolades. Last week, Jai Patel earned special teams honors from the conference.

It was a fantastic Saturday afternoon from Monangai, who carried the Rutgers offense on his back to a 35-16 win over Virginia Tech. Monangai has 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns, a career-high.

Monangai now has back-to-back 100-yard rushing games for the first time in his career.

On the season, Monangai has 357 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He has a rushing touchdown in all three games this season as Rutgers is now off to a 3-0 start.

Hunter Whohler (Wisconsin) was named the defensive player of the week after notching two interceptions and 10 total tackles in a win over Georgia Southern. Braedan Wisloski (Maryland) was the special teams player of the week and Darius Taylor (Minnesota) was the freshman of the week.
