The Clemson football program had a lot of questions at wide receiver heading into the 2023 season.
Antonio Williams was a breakout star for the team his freshman season, and we all expected Beaux Collins to take the next step when healthy and ready to play. Even with a strong top two wideouts, the Tigers needed more.
Freshman wide receiver Tyler Brown has been impressive to start his career at Clemson. While he wasn’t the freshman name people expected to step up, he has caught Dabo Swinney’s attention.
“He’s just going to keep growing, keep blossoming,” Swinney said “He and Antonio have kind of been a nice little one-two punch for us. It’s really nice to really not have much drop-off at all. There’s really not a lot of drop-off other than just Antonio’s got a little more experience. But it’s a really good situation for us.”
A Greenville, South Carolina product, Brown has seen some action early in his career. He caught two passes for 21 yards in his debut against Duke and added two catches for nine yards against Charleston Southern. While these numbers are by no means crazy, Brown is only getting better.
“He’s a guy that to this point, after two games, he’s played pretty good football for a young guy,” the head coach said “He’s played with no fear, and then definitely he’s a guy that can show up in special teams just like he did last week.
“So, just continue to hopefully see him blossom as he continues to play and gain some experience. But it gives us a lot of depth at a really critical spot on our team, and competition.”
Tyler Brown is a player to keep an eye on.
