WWE confirms Royal Rumble 2024 will take place in Tampa

Tampa was said to be the leading candidate to host the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble since this summer.

The Road to WrestleMania 40 will begin in Florida.

WWE announced today that the 37th Royal Rumble will take place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, home of MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays, on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024. The show will be part of a full weekend of events in the Tampa area, including the Raw after the Rumble at Tampa’s Amalie Arena.

“Tampa Bay has long been a terrific market for WWE,” WWE Executive Vice President of Live Events John Porco said in a press release. “Thanks to our partners at the Tampa Bay Rays, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, we look forward to a fantastic schedule of events in January.”

Tampa was said to be the leading candidate to host the 2024 Royal Rumble since July, when both PWInsider and Fightful reported that the city was a frontrunner. Tropicana Field hosted the event only two years ago, but that was during the COVID-19 pandemic and the show was held in front of no live fans. Orlando was the site of the 2016 Rumble and Miami hosted in 2006, but Tampa hasn’t been the host city with a live crowd since 1995.

WWE squashed any thoughts of significant changes by confirming that the upcoming Royal Rumble will once again be headlined by two 30-person Royal Rumble matches, one each for men and women, with the winners receiving championship matches at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.
