Former Vol Yan Gomes started at catcher for Chicago. He was 1-for-4 and has recorded eight hits in 11 games.

The loss ended the Cubs’ three-game winning streak.

Gomes played at Tennessee from 2007-08 before transferring to Barry University.

He won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019. The former Vol was an American League All-Star with Cleveland. Gomes won a Silver Slugger Award while playing for Cleveland in 2014.

Chicago will next play Wednesday, concluding a three-game series against the Rockies. First pitch is slated for 3:10 p.m. EDT at Coors Field.
