LSU sees slight bump in On3’s SEC rankings after Grambling win

The Tigers are now up to No. 5 in On3’s SEC power rankings.

LSU did its job on Saturday with a dominating 72-10 win over Grambling.

While that game was far from the toughest test LSU will face this season, it was also far from a banner weekend for the league, as a whole. Several teams struggled with lower-level opponents while Alabama lost to Texas as the SEC fell in another marquee game.

The SEC still looks pretty open, and even Georgia hasn’t been overly impressive in two wins over cupcake opponents. On3 updated its SEC power rankings after Week 2, and though the Tigers don’t sit near the very top, they did move up one spot to No. 5 this week.

LSU moves back up a spot following the opening day loss against Florida State and a win over Grambling State. The Tigers bounced back with a 72-10 win.

Now, it was an expected win, but it was needed for LSU. This is still a high-quality football team but we’ve seen an uneven Tigers crew through two games. We’ll choose to believe this team can challenge again in the SEC West.

The Florida State loss was frustrating, but losing the opener to a potential national title contender doesn’t mean the season is over for LSU. The Tigers will just have a smaller margin for error when they begin conference play against Mississippi State this weekend.
