After a late-night flight back to Texas, the Cowboys are ready for their Week 2 preparation. The team will host their first home game of the season, when they take on the New York Jets to complete their early-season Gotham two-step. The Jets will look a lot different than the team Dallas planned to take on, with QB Aaron Rodgers now out for the season with a torn achilles.
Dallas escaped the hideous New York weather from Sunday night without any serious injuries, though fans will have to wait for Wednesday’s practice to know the full extent of the nicks and bruises and get an update on the players who are still on the mend, like Tyler Smith and Donovan Wilson.
The team could also look to add a veteran this week as their contracts are no longer guaranteed for the season. Meanwhile, here’s the roster of players Dallas has available for Sunday’s matchup, which will be updated if there are any roster moves.
Teams are allowed to elevate two players from the practice squad to be on the 47/48-man game-day roster each week, without officially adding them to the big club. There’s a maximum of three times per player, so we will monitor that count here each week.
There’s also a rule change for 2023 the Cowboys will be able to take advantage of. If a team has a third QB on the active roster, they do not have to put him on the active list in order for him to be available for emergency duty. Dallas has one of those, so when the inactives come around 1.5 hours before kickoff, know that if the third QB isn’t on it, there’s a plan to give him snaps in the game.
