[autotag]Jimmie Johnson[/autotag]’s first season as co-owner of Legacy Motor Club has not gone to plan; however, things appear to be turning around for Johnson and the race team. Legacy Motor Club announced last week that John Hunter Nemechek would drive the No. 42 car on a full-time basis next year. Then, Erik Jones finished in third place at Kansas Speedway.
It was Jones and Legacy Motor Club’s best finish of the season as the organization has entered several drivers this year. That includes Johnson, who will return for another part-time season in 2024. In fact, the seven-time Cup Series champion jumped on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to talk about driving for a Toyota and addressed those who did not like the switch.
“I guess I have to quickly touch on the fact that I do understand some fans are gonna have a hard time,” Johnson said, “One thing I love about our sport is that our fans are passionate and speak their mind. I knew it wasn’t going to be popular to some but long-term, business, and for what’s best for this organization, honestly, what’s best for me at this point in my life and my journey in this sport is the partnership with Toyota.”
Johnson will not compete in any more races during the 2023 NASCAR season, which means he has driven his final race with Chevrolet for the time being. Hopefully, the Legacy Motor Club co-owner can announce his 2024 schedule shortly and it includes several notable events.
