It’s been an up-and-down day for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell in the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. After Washington defensive end Montez Sweat sacked Arizona quarterback Joshua Dobbs to force a fumble that was recovered by Daron Payne, the Commanders went back on offense.
Washington moved the ball down the field, largely behind running back Brian Robinson Jr. However, facing a third-and-goal from the six-yard line, Howell needed to find the end zone with his team trailing 16-10.
Howell takes the snap, sees nothing open and takes off, outrunning one defender and making a move on another to get into the end zone and tie the game. Kicker Joey Slye was successful on the point-after attempt, and the Commanders were back on top.
