Joe Burrow inks record-setting contract extension with Bengals

Joe Burrow signed a five-year deal worth $275 million, making him the highest paid player in NFL history.

Former LSU quarterback [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] will be sticking around in Cincinnati for a while.

The first overall pick in 2020 and Pro Bowler in 2022 finally wrapped up his contract talks with the Bengals, and the end result was a five-year, $275-million contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history with an average annual salary of $55 million.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Burrow’s contract features $219 million in guaranteed money.

Burrow has quickly become one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL after missing much of his rookie year due to injury. He led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance following the 2021 season, and they returned to the AFC Championship last year.

Now locked in with a deal worth more on a per-year basis than the 10-year behemoth contract two-time champion Patrick Mahomes signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati will expect Burrow to lead the team to the promised land for the first time.
