It came as a bit of a shock that right before roster cuts the Cleveland Browns traded Josh Dobbs to the Arizona Cardinals. Earlier in that day Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said that Dobbs was going to be the backup to Deshaun Watson in Cleveland this year.
Fast forward to this week with the season openers this weekend and the Cardinals have named Dobbs their starter to open the season. The team didn’t commit to him past the first game saying that they would continue to evaluate the situation as the games play out.
Backing up Dobbs and breathing down his neck is a fifth-round rookie out of Houston Clayton Tune. Another thing to keep an eye on is when Kyler Murray may be medically cleared to return to the field. It will be nice to see Dobbs get another chance to start after his short stint in Tennessee last season and Browns fans will be pulling for him in Arizona.
