The Cowboys’ new Jerry Jones AI is an egotistical waste of money only he could possibly want

No one asked for this creepy display of vanity.

Jerry Jones has never been one to be shy about flaunting his money. If anything, the Dallas Cowboys owner has a notorious reputation for ostentatious displays of wealth while his football team flounders on the field every January.

But his latest stunt, in partnership with AT&T (which has the naming rights to the Cowboys’ home stadium), might take the cake.

On Thursday, it was revealed that AT&T Stadium will house an AI of Jones with which fans can have a “lifelike” conversation. (Note: “Lifelike” is exceptionally generous.) It’s precisely the kind of creepy and unnecessary waste of money that I have a feeling only a self-centered, egotistical maniac like Jones would appreciate.

Because, really: Who on Earth is coming to AT&T Stadium to “talk” to Jerry Jones, who isn’t related to him?

I seriously question the judgment of anyone who thinks this is cool or worthwhile. (The people in the above video are probably well-compensated performers. Kudos to them for swallowing their pride.)

But, if I were to ask virtual Jerry a few questions, here’s a good start:

Why haven’t the Cowboys won a Super Bowl in three decades? Why does the real Jerry insist on inserting himself everywhere into football matters like he knows what he’s doing? When is real Jerry mercifully selling the team? Why does real Jerry operate like the unofficial czar of the most powerful sports league on the Western side of the Atlantic Ocean?

(Short circuiting)

Ah, OK. We’ll try another time (but probably not).
