The Pittsburgh Steelers had their big day of work at prctice on Thursday preparing to take on the San Francisco 49ers. The bad news is the Steelers had two starting defensive linemen either limited or out for practice, including defensive tackle Cam Heyward.
Heyward was DNP on Thursday with what has been characterized as a stomach injury. This is after Heyward took his typical veteran day off on Wednesday. Head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t seem overly concerned about the injury but Tomlin giving no real info to the press on injuries is what he does.
The other starting defensive lineman dealing with an injury on Thursday was Larry Ogunjobi. He has been dealing with a right foot injury throughout preseason.
These injuries could open the door for guys like DeMarvin Leal and rookie Keeanu Benton to see a larger role on Sunday. The improved depth the Steelers front office has built on the defensie line could be put to the test early against one of the best offensive lines in the NFC.
