UNC Football legend Alge Crumpler looking for spot on Senior Bowl 75th Anniversary team

Alge Crumpler, a former UNC TE who enjoyed an even more successful NFL career, is a finalist for the Senior Bowl’s 75th anniversary team.

There’s several athletes who’ve come through Chapel Hill and went on to enjoy successful NFL careers.

One of those athletes would be tight end Alge Crumpler, who played at UNC from 1996-2000. Crumpler enjoyed modest success, totaling 760 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Crumpler went on to become an ever more successful NFL tight end, becoming a 4-time Pro Bowler with the Atlanta Falcons while playing with Michael Vick. He compiled 4,743 receiving yards and 39 touchdowns on 373 receptions.

Now 10+ years out from the NFL, Crumpler needs some help landing on the Senior Bowl’s 75th Anniversary Team. The Senior Bowl, which annually brings together several of college football’s top players in an early offseason clash, gives NFL scouts another opportunity to see players before the April draft.

Crumpler’s Atlanta Falcons career came to a surprising end in Februrary 2008, when he was one of seven players released in a roster overhaul. He never quite replicated his Falcons success with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, catching just 57 passes for 531 yards and five touchdowns.

If Crumpler ever comes back to watch the Tar Heels, he’d certainly be proud of their tight ends. Carolina has three of the country’s best in John Copenhaver, Kamari Morales and Bryson Nesbit, who all played major roles in UNC’s season-opening victory over South Carolina.
