The 49ers locked in defensive end Nick Bosa on a long-term contract about an hour before their first practice of the year. It was also moments before head coach Kyle Shanahan took the podium for his pre-practice press conference.
Because of the timing, Shanahan said he doesn’t know if Bosa will practice with the team Wednesday. He joked that the reigning Defensive Player of the Year would play every snap, but after that said the team is waiting to get Bosa in the building before deciding how much he’ll play.
“We’ll be smart with it and that’ll be based on these two-and-a-half practices,” Shanahan said.
It’s unclear whether Bosa will be able to practice at all Wednesday, but Shanahan is hopeful the DE will be in action Thursday and Friday with a chance to be as active as possible Sunday vs. the Steelers.
