The biggest story ahead of North Carolina’s season opener against South Carolina was the status of wide receiver Tez Walker. He was ruled ineligible by the NCAA in early August and filed an appeal.
However, the NCAA did not rule on the appeal, making Walker ineligible for the season opener, a big loss for the Tar Heels. It became an even bigger loss when fellow transfer Nate McCollum was also ruled out due to an injury.
All week long UNC fans have supported Walker as have college football analysts across the country. And now, a country music star is doing the same.
Noted North Carolina fan Eric Church was an honorary captain for Saturday’s game and wore a Walker jersey at the coinflip:

That’s a pretty awesome gesture by Church to do that for Walker and shows just how silly the whole situation is with the NCAA.
The hope for UNC is that they get Walker back sooner than later for this season and that he can eventually play.
