Junior defensive back [autotag]DeAndre Boykins[/autotag] is set to miss the season with a lower-body injury, per UNC.
The news came before kick-off that Boykins would miss the home opener and the rest of the season. Boykins started all 14 games last season for UNC, mustering up 67 total tackles, two sacks, seven pass deflections, and one interception.
Boykins’s best game of the season came in the 27-24 win over Miami, where he finished with four tackles, one sack, and an interception. Behind Boykins on the depth chart are senior D.J. Jones and three-star freshman Kaleb Cost.
The loss hurts a UNC team already in a wind of fire thanks to the NCAA ruling of wide receiver Tez Walker, not to mention the loss of the other transfer wide receiver, Nate McCollum, who was listed out before tip-off.
UNC already entered this season with their defense being questioned, so it will be interesting to see how the Tar Heels maneuver around this loss.
