Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program did exactly what they needed to this offseason to put the Tigers in an excellent position for the 2023 season.
The big move that came from Clemson’s offseason was the addition of 2022 Broyles Award winner Garrett Riley, who helped lead TCU to a national championship appearance last season. The Tigers needed a change, and they identified where and made the right move.
Bleacher Report recently released an article picking one word for every top 25 team’s offseason, with writer David Kenyon choosing “smooth” for the Tigers.
You’ve probably heard the phrase “no news is good news.” That seems applicable to Clemson, which won an ACC title last season, made a terrific hire in offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and just hasn’t been the subject of negative news over the spring and summer.
This is a fair assessment of the Tigers’ offseason. Riley was an excellent hire, and other than that, it was business as usual for Clemson. There was definitely negative news from time to time this offseason, but that didn’t come from the program; it came from analysts.
Doubting Clemson tends to be a popular thing year after year, and with the hype Florida State has gotten, some have used that as an opportunity to put the Tigers down. I’m sure fans have picked up on this throughout their times as Clemson supporters.
Clemson did what they needed to this offseason, and the 2023 season could be a huge one for the program as a result.
