No. 10 Tennessee will open its 2023 season versus Virginia at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Senior offensive lineman Cooper Mays enters his fourth season at Tennessee in 2023.
Mays missed time during fall training camp due to an undisclosed minor procedure.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel provided an update for Mays on Saturday.
“Sources: Tennessee senior center Cooper Mays is expected to miss the opening game against Virginia on Saturday,” Thamel announced. “He underwent a minor medical procedure on Aug. 9. He’ll be replaced by sixth-year senior Ollie Lane, who has five career starts but none at center.”
Mays started 13 games at center for the Vols in 2022. He played and started in eight games at center during the 2021 campaign, while appearing in 10 contests and two starts at center as a freshman in 2020.
