Discipline and execution are critical factors for Alabama football this season

Raise your hand if you want to see a more disciplined Alabama football team this fall.

Nick Saban will lead the Alabama football team onto the field inside Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night to take on Middle Tennessee State to open the 2023 season for the Crimson Tide.

While all of the focus is certain to be on who takes the first snap at quarterback for Alabama, and what the pecking order might be, Alabama fans should be watching for something much more critical: discipline and execution.

In 2022, Alabama finished 129th out of 131 teams in penalties committed per game with 8.3, a number which is completely unacceptable.

Coach Saban and his staff have explicitly stated that the focus this offseason has been on recreating the standard at Alabama and a big piece of that is playing disciplined and executing the gameplan.

If you want to know how good the 2023 version of the Alabama Crimson Tide will be, watch and see how well this team executes on Saturday night and if the penalties (especially pre-snap) have been eradicated.
