The Colorado Buffaloes will open their 2023 season with both a challenge and opportunity in front of them while going up against the TCU Horned Frogs on Sept. 2.
2022 was a magical season for the Frogs as they finished the regular season 12-0, including a Week 1 win over CU in Boulder, and made it to the College Football Playoff. The Horned Frogs won a shootout in the CFP semifinals against Michigan before running into the buzzsaw that is the Georgia Bulldogs in the national championship.
All of this came in Sonny Dykes’ first season as head coach of TCU. So what can we expect from TCU in Dykes’ second year? Anthony North of Frogs O’War gave us his take:
What a ride 2022 was. Every TCU fan was the Paul Rudd in Hot Ones meme, just, “Who would’ve thought? Not me.” It was a disbelief that such success could happen so fast after moving on from Gary Patterson after 20+ seasons. Expectations are certainly high going into 2023, but I don’t think anyone realistically has sights set on another run to the national championship. Where eight wins was seen as a highly optimistic prediction going into last year, it would feel like a disappointment this season. The realistic expectation is to remain in the top 25 conversation throughout the season and remain in the hunt for the Big 12 championship into the final weeks, though it’s unlikely those 2-3 lucky bounces you need to go undefeated all favor the Frogs in 2023.
