Colts’ player of the game vs. Eagles: QB Anthony Richardson

Here’s why Anthony Richardson is our player of the game from the preseason finale.

After a tough week of practice, the Indianapolis Colts traveled to Lincoln Finacial Field and left with a 27-13 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The best player on the field tonight was quarterback Anthony Richardson. He earns player of the game honors.

During the game, defensive tackle Deforest Buckner was asked what he’s seen out of Richardson. “He brings energy. You can see his growth since OTA’s. You see (that) he can make something out of nothing and is playing confidently.”

Tonight, Richardson showed why the team drafted him. His numbers (6-of-17 with 78 passing yards and five carries for 38 rushing yards) would not tear up headlines, but his big play-making ability certainly will.

Richardson showed good poise and confidence in the pocket and was mainly sound in his decision-making. He flashed his ability to make plays with an on-a-rope throw to Kylen Granson that went for a first down and by using his legs to create positive yards when his targets were covered.

Perhaps most impressive (despite a drop from Josh Downs) was a laser throw that he stepped up into the pocket to deliver with extreme pressure in front of him on third down.

Fans should be excited about what they are seeing from Richardson. He is growing from week to week, and that is a great sign. It shows he’s coachable and he has what it takes to lead the team.
