On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced they’re going to unveil a statue of the late Kobe Bryant on Feb. 8, 2024. Shortly after the Lakers made their announcement, Vanessa Bryant released a video on social media, sharing her pride and gratitude at the immortalization of her legendary husband.
During the video, Vanessa noted how Kobe felt at home in Los Angeles. She also discussed how honored she is that his statue will be placed outside of the arena that is colloquially known as “the house that Kobe built.” Bryant, who spent his entire career with the Lakers, won five championships during his career, ensuring the Lakers remained a relevant force in the NBA for two decades.
“As you know, Kobe played his entire 20-year NBA career as a Los Angeles Laker,” Vanessa Bryant said. “Since arriving in this city and joining the Lakers organization, he felt at home here, playing in the City of Angels. On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters and me, I am so honored that, right in the center of Los Angeles, in front of the place known as the house that Kobe built, we are going to unveil his statue so that his legacy can be celebrated forever.”
