Not that long ago, cornerback depth was a massive problem for the Cincinnati Bengals.
But things change fast in the NFL.
Fast forward to this summer and it has become clear the depth behind Chidobe Awuzie, Cam Taylor-Britt and Mike Hilton is doing just fine.
There’s slot man Jalen Davis as a lock, plus second-rounder D.J. Turner coming along nicely. Seventh-rounder DJ Ivey has far exceeded expectations, too.
Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com hit the broad strokes on the sudden depth surge:
Turner, resting muscle soreness, has been terrific. Ivey has had a big camp and looked to solidify a spot with an excellent outing in Atlanta Friday night. Plus, there are the three starters in Awuzie (he looks ready), Hilton, and Cam Taylor-Britt.
We’ve listed out six corners already, plus Allan George has been pretty good depth in past years. With the team needing to keep at least five safeties (young guys plus veteran ace Michael Thomas), the team suddenly has a tougher-than-usual path to 53 thanks to the defensive backs.
But as has become a theme in recent years, it’s just another good problem for the Bengals to have.
