Georgia and Michigan lead the way in first re-rank of the 2023 season

No surprises at the top of the first re-ranking of the year.

College football officially kicks off the season this weekend with several matchups on the schedule. The headliners include the Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking on the Navy Midshipmen in Dublin, Ireland.

Other matchups in Week 0 will include Hawaii traveling to Tennessee for their opening game showdown with the Vanderbilt Commodores. The “Trojan War” will put San Jose State against Southern California. Given that the game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network will ensure that no one will see it.

A new season means that USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg has his new re-ranking of every team in FBS.

The re-rank now goes to 133 teams after this summer’s additions of Jacksonville State and Sam Houston State to Conference USA. The new membership total hasn’t changed the situation for Massachusetts, which was No. 131 last season and begins this year at No. 133.

Here is the top 25 from the initial re-rank according to Paul Myerberg.
