Kansas City defeated the Cubs, 4-3, Friday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Former Vol Yan Gomes started at catcher for Chicago. He went 2-for-4, recording one double and one run. The double is Gomes’ 14th in 2023.
Gomes played at Tennessee from 2007-08 before transferring to Barry University.
He won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019. The former Vol was an American League All-Star with Cleveland. Gomes won a Silver Slugger Award while playing for Cleveland in 2014.
The Cubs will next play Saturday versus Kansas City. First pitch between Chicago and the Royals is slated for 2:20 p.m. EDT at Wrigley Field.
