Auburn will have a chance to add to its momentum on the recruiting trail next week when four-star safety [autotag]Zaquan Patterson[/autotag] announces his commitment. However, they have stiff competition to battle.
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami is the overwhelming favorite to land the talented safety from Hollywood, Florida, with a forecast of 91.3%. The only school that is deemed a threat to Miami is the Auburn Tigers, as they have gained momentum ahead of Patterson’s commitment date.
Patterson visited Auburn during Big Cat Weekend in July and has taken four total visits to the Plains. On a recent episode of On3’s Inside Scoop, Izubee Charles of CaneSport says that Auburn is “coming out of left field” as a candidate for Patterson to commit to.
What is Auburn’s pledge to Patterson?
“What (Auburn is) doing is making his mom feel really comfortable with the program, showing her the ins and outs of what they do over there in Auburn. That’s kind of Zaquan’s biggest thing if his mom likes the program, he likes the program,” Charles said. “I spoke with him — I believe it was last month or late June — he said his mom was going to be the biggest deciding factor for him. Auburn’s showing her everything that she wants to see. It’s going to make it really interesting down the stretch.”
Patterson is considered to be a four-star safety across all four recruiting outlets. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 4 safety in the country and the No. 11 overall prospect from the state of Florida for the 2024 cycle.
Patterson is set to announce his commitment on either Aug. 22 or 23 according to On3’s Hunter Shelton.
