Oklahoma 5-star wide receiver target sets commitment date

Oklahoma has work to do for five-star Terry Bussey but now they have their deadline.

The work wide receiver coach [autotag]Emmett Jones[/autotag] has done since arriving in Norman has been nothing short of incredible. He’s had eight players commit in the 2024 and 2025 classes and a pair of transfer portal additions since he took over.

Jones is hoping for another huge win, this time in five-star [autotag]Terry Bussey[/autotag]. The Timpson, Texas, native is the No. 1 athlete in the nation and the No. 15 player overall.

Recently he released his top five, which included the [autotag]Oklahoma Sooners[/autotag], Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers.

While he plays smaller school Texas high school football, you can still see his incredible playmaking ability.

Plays with elite initial explosiveness. Couples startling acceleration with excellent top-end speed that he’s proven in a combine setting (sub-4.5 verified). Elite camp circuit has provided exposure to other high-caliber opponents, but still faces considerable leap in competition level from in-game perspective. Will encounter technical learning curve moving to receiver or secondary in full-time capacity. Athletic and on-field profiles may more ideally lend to defensive projection, but relative lack of height and frame potential may force to receiver in the long run. — Gabe Brooks, 247Sports

Bussey is a heavy Texas A&M lean, but he has announced his commitment date. He plans to commit on Sept. 28, 2023.

While it’s unlikely he winds up in Norman, you can never count out Jones’ recruiting ability. This was a race a few months ago no one thought Oklahoma would even be a part of, and here they are.

Also, with five wide receivers already in the class, it seems like the Sooners know where this one is headed. But if things change, Bussey is too talented to pass up, and one the Sooners will almost certainly make room for.
