It has been a whirlwind first full offseason for Omar Khan as the Pittsburgh Steelers general manager. Khan has turned over a great deal of the roster in an attempt to create competition at multiple position units. This will bring out the best in all the players.
Khan talked after Wednesday’s training camp practice and offered something of an update on what the front office has planned. He noted that the college scouts are already out on the road getting ready for the upcoming season.
As for the rest of the front office, they haven’t closed the door on upgrading the Steelers roster ahead of the start of the regular season and are currently tracking players currently on NFL rosters in case they become available after final cuts. The NFL has changed the rules on cutdowns this year. There will only be a single round of cuts from 90 to 53, which will create a mad rush to adjust rosters with signings and releases just days ahead of the start of the regular season.
