The Tennessee Titans are set to play their first preseason game of 2023 this Saturday afternoon when they travel to Chicago to take on the Bears.
Unfortunately, for those hoping to see Tennessee’s big names in action, it’s probably best if you don’t get your hopes up.
While we haven’t heard an official word just yet, the Titans under head coach Mike Vrabel have historically allowed the majority of the starters to rest throughout the preseason.
Obviously, that could change, especially given all the new pieces on the team this year, but I find it hard to believe the very first preseason game is where he’ll give his starters live-game reps.
If anything, maybe we see them sparingly during the third preseason game, which is often considered a dress rehearsal.
However, the Bears are opting to go with a different approach. Head Coach Matt Eberflus announced on Wednesday that some of his starters will take the field on Saturday, including quarterback Justin Fields.
Eberflus then added that each player will be on a different pitch count, with some of the starters playing anywhere from seven to 10 plays, while others could see slightly more than that.
Eberflus said play time will be by player more than unit. Could be 7-10 plays for some guys. 12-15 snaps for others.

Whoever takes the field for the Titans on Saturday will have a great opportunity to see how they measure up against an actual NFL-caliber offense/defense, albeit for a short period.
Kickoff is set for noon CT and you can watch the game live, either on NFL Network or locally on WKRN if you live in the Nashville area.
