Zahir Mathis a top-100 overall recruit from Philadelphia Imhotep High School. He has listed USC in his top 12 schools.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Mathis has USC, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Florida State as the finalist.
The No. 38 overall prospect and sixth-best defensive end in the 2025 class has prototypical size for the defensive end position. This makes the fact that he has the athleticism to get around the edge immediately — as well as being able to turn on the jets and chase plays downfield — all the more impressive.
USC has fallen from a top-five position in the 2024 recruiting cycle out of the top 15. It has been a rough ride the past five weeks for the Trojans, who can use a big boost on the trail. The good news for USC: It has just 15 commitments, whereas other schools have over 20. The Trojans have room to grow in the class, but they will need some high-end hits before the 2024 cycle runs its course.
