On Sunday, the New York Liberty defeated the Las Vegas Aces, 99-61, handing Las Vegas its largest loss in franchise history. The two teams’ next matchup will be in the Commissioner’s Cup title game on Aug. 15 at Michelob ULTRA Arena at 9 p.m. ET.
“For us, it was a message,” Sabrina Ionescu said about the Liberty win over the Aces. “They got us at their place really good, and we wanted to make sure we came in ready. We were able to show our fans and ourselves the improvement we had over the last couple of months since we’ve last seen them.”
Ionescu finished with 31 points, seven assists and five rebounds. This is her fifth 30-point game of the season, tying the Liberty all-time single-season record for the second time in her career.
New York’s Courtney Vandersloot became the second all-time WNBA assist leader, surpassing the legendary Ticha Penicheiro and moving behind the first-place mark held by Sue Bird.
The Liberty’s game was played before a sold-out crowd of 11,418 fans, the team’s largest crowd since moving to Barclays Center.
