Frank Reich comments on Saturday’s rough offensive outing

Panthers HC Frank Reich spoke about a particularly rough showing for his offense during Saturday’s practice.

After some crisp outings to begin training camp, the Carolina Panthers had their longest practice of the summer on Saturday. And if you were on offense, the practice probably felt even longer.

This morning’s session was highlighted (or lowlighted) by a rough offensive showing. Most prevalent amongst the follies were pre-snap penalties by the offensive linemen and a big ol’ case of the dropsies from the wide receivers.

Head coach Frank Reich spoke about overall performance afterwards.

“Too many pre-snap penalties today,” he began. “I thought we started out decent on offense, but then the defense really had a good day today. So, just gotta keep cleaning things up. It was a good day today. I was excited about today. I thought our intensity was really good. We just can’t fall into a lapse on offense. We’ve been having some good days, but today was not our best day offensively.”

Mr. Reich played Mr. Brightside, shedding a positive light on his defense’s work. After all, there are multiple sides of the game.

“I mean, this is what it is,” he added. “I mean, we tell the guys all the time—we’re not afraid to make mistakes. We’re gonna make mistakes. We gotta learn from ’em and get better. So, this was a good day. We’ll learn from the mistakes that we made, and excited about that.

“This is what happens in training camp. You gotta keep iterating, you just gotta keep iterating. You gotta work out the kinks, get the timing right, get all the mechanics right, all the operational stuff right. Still play with great intensity and today, the defense got the better.”
