The Cubs defeated Cincinnati, 5-3, Thursday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Former Vol Yan Gomes started at catcher for Chicago and was 0-for-3, recording one RBI.
Former Vol Nick Senzel did not play for the Reds.
Gomes played at Tennessee from 2007-08 before transferring to Barry University.
Gomes won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019. He was an American League All-Star with Cleveland. The Former Vol won a Silver Slugger Award in 2014.
Chicago will next play Friday, opening a series versus Atlanta. First pitch is slated for 2:20 p.m. EDT at Wrigley Field.
The Reds will also open a series Friday versus Washington at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m. EDT.
