eBay’s back-to-school sale discounts a $1k OLED monitor because why not

eBay’s back-to-school sales discount a high-end gaming monitor from LG, despite it not even working well for school tasks

Back-to-school sales are the time for clothes, shoes, and Chromebooks that get the job done without costing too much, but eBay apparently says you need to play video games on a high-end monitor to succeed in class. One of the headline deals in eBay’s back-to-school sales is 20 percent off a nearly $1,000 gaming monitor (thanks, Rock, Paper, Shotgun).

The discount is technically something you can use for most items on the site sold directly by major brands, but a 240Hz OLED monitor from LG just stands out as particularly unusual.

Even with 20 percent off, you’re still spending at least double or triple the average back-to-school budget on something that absolutely no one needs, even if you’re taking one of those esports courses at a university and studying competitive multiplayer games

Ironically, most reviews for the monitor suggest it isn’t very good for daily work of the type you’d be doing for school.

If the school you’re attending is the school of playing lots of PC games, and you’re in the market for a new monitor, this is a good – albeit expensive – choice.

The 27-inch screen is in the “just right” zone of small enough to fit most places and big enough for the display to really shine, and the response time is among the fastest around. Add the crisp, vibrant color range of the OLED screen, and you’ve got an excellent monitor.

If you’re keen to check it out for yourself, head over to eBay while the sale lasts.
