Even with a vastly improved roster on paper, Colorado is going to have to prove that it’s indeed better than last season’s 1-11 squad. Many national outlets are putting the Buffs’ over/under win total at 3.5 and while four wins would prove many wrong, new head coach Deion Sanders has higher expectations going into 2023.
Still, most media outlets aren’t expecting much from Colorado in this transitional season. On Tuesday, CBS Sports released its preseason ranking of all 133 FBS teams and the Buffs were placed at a disappointing No. 85. Only Stanford at No. 97 was lower in the Pac-12.
Looking at Colorado’s nonconference opponents, TCU was No. 17, Nebraska sat at No. 54 and Colorado State placed near the bottom of the list at No. 120, so the Buffs have two quick opportunities to move up in subsequent rankings.
The Pac-12 showed out fairly well in this preseason ranking with USC (No. 6), Washington (No. 10), Utah (No. 12) and Oregon (No. 14) all in the top 15.
