Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young has received a mountain of praise for his work this offseason. And on Tuesday, that mountain got a bit taller.
While settling into Spartanburg, S.C. for this year’s installment of training camp, general manager Scott Fitterer offered his latest kudos for the No. 1 overall pick. When asked about his impressions of Young through organized team activities and mandatory minicamp, Fitterer broke it down.
“Everybody talks about the intelligence and the processing,” he said. “It’s reaffirming, ’cause we saw that in an NFL offense. We saw him in a huddle, going up to the line of scrimmage and managing line calls. And then, not only managing the line calls, but post-snap—being able to process and go through it while you’re dropping back. It’s not just out of the gun like you are in college, grabbin’ it and throwin’ it. He’s going through the progressions of an NFL offense and that was really encouraging.”
Whether or not the Panthers were ever really sniffing elsewhere atop the 2023 NFL draft, Young was always the most pro-ready package of the class. His poise, pocket presence, processing and playmaking ability all proved to be key in not only getting him to Carolina, but also starting him in his journey there.
Fitterer went on to affirm that Young never seems to be rattled, even in this new and weighty chapter of his football career.
“He’s unflappable,” he added. “We saw that at the dinner. We talked about that before. He’s a grown man. He looks young in the face, he looks real young. But he’s a grown man.”
In fact, some may say he’s even reminiscent of a 40-year-old man . . .
