Welcome aboard the hype train, Andy. It’s great to have you along for the ride.
Like many before him, On3’s Andy Staples is the latest to jump on the Cade McNamara bandwagon with the Iowa Hawkeyes. In his look at the nation’s top five impact transfer quarterbacks, Staples highlighted McNamara among the country’s best.
Here’s what Staples had to say about McNamara:
“He’s already led a team as a starter to a Big Ten championship. … Now he’s going to need some help. The offensive line is going to need to block better, the running game is going to need to give them more than they gave Spencer Petras and company last year. But there’s going to be a lot of scrutiny on that offense,” the On3 analyst said. “… Cade McNamara can help make that all go away. If they’re coming out and they’re scoring with relative ease, or even if they’re just okay on offense, Iowa’s going to be a really good team.” – Andy Staples, On3.
The 6-foot-1, 205 pound signal-caller arrives in Iowa City with the type of production and pedigree that has Hawkeye fans hopeful that they’ve found the quarterback to guide the program out of its offensive rut.
At Michigan in 2021, McNamara passed for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns against just six picks. While those might not sound like the most eye-popping numbers of all time, keep in mind that Spencer Petras passed for just 1,725 yards with the Hawkeyes last season. It would be a substantial uptick for the black and gold.
McNamara joins two other new Big Ten West quarterbacks on Staples list. Wisconsin‘s Tanner Mordecai and Nebraska‘s Jeff Sims both made the cut here as well.
Notre Dame‘s Sam Hartman and Kentucky’s Devin Leary round out Staples top five impact transfers. Take a look below at Staples’ full thoughts courtesy of the On3 YouTube channel.
