The 2023 NFL season hasn’t officially began yet but already it’s off to a less than ideal start for former Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool. The Chicago Bears wide receiver will begin the year on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List when training camp opens later this week.
There are no details available yet as to what the cause is that will sideline Claypool and as a result we obviously don’t know how long this may go on.
Claypool was originally drafted out of Notre Dame by the Pittsburgh Steelers where he played from 2020 until the middle of last season when he was traded to the Bears for a second round pick. That pick wound up being the 32nd overall pick in this past spring’s NFL draft.
Claypool has a big fall ahead as he’s on the final year of his rookie deal and will become a free agent following the season. If he’d like to stay with Chicago he’ll need to improve on his 14 receptions for 140 yards (10 y/c) and no scores in seven games with the Bears last season.
