Among the more intriguing matchups for week 1 of the college football season will be North Carolina and South Carolina battling in Charlotte in primetime on ABC. And the matchup will feature two interesting quarterbacks in Drake Maye and Spencer Rattler.
Maye found success last season with UNC, breaking some school records and putting his name on the map in terms of the national scene. He enters this year as one of the top Heisman Trophy contenders and should be a top 3 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
For Rattler, he struggled at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina in 2022. Rattler and the Gamecocks were able to finish the year 8-5 including an upset win over Clemson before losing their bowl game to Notre Dame.
Now, Rattler is excited for the challenge to go against Maye and the Tar Heels.
“I’m excited for the game. I haven’t met Drake [Maye] yet,” Rattler said via the Post and Courier. “He kinda blew up on the scene last year and had a great season. Credit to him, I’m excited to get to compete versus them. It’ll be a fun game [and] hopefully we’ll put on a show.”
This should be a good quarterback battle between two talented players at the position and a fun way to start off the 2023 season.
