The Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown will resume negotiations on a contract extension for the All-NBA forward next week, according to the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.
Brown and the Celtics paused dialogue while Brown was overseas for an event with the National Basketball Players Association. Now that Brown is back stateside and in Boston, talks are set to pick up again.
Brown is eligible for a supermax contract extension worth north of $300 million over the course of five seasons. Such a deal could be the richest in NBA history. It is believed both sides want to come to terms on a deal, but negotiations remain. Specifics related to player options, the possibility of a trade bonus, or payment schedules have been cited as possible areas of disagreement.
Brown returned to the Hub to help emcee a celebration at the Fenelon Street Playground in Dorchester. He spoke about his commitment to advocacy in underserved communities, including in the Boston area. Brown has long been a vocal and active supporter of civil rights, education and racial equity.
