Paul Pierce thinks a Damian Lillard-led Miami Heat squad wouldn’t escape the first round

It was the Heat’s depth that played a crucial role in their previous successes in recent years — depth that would be traded away to land the Blazers guard.

Not everyone is as high on the idea of disgruntled Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard joining the Miami Heat’s roster as Pat Riley seems to be. In fact, Hall of Fame Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce believes that if Lillard joins the Heat for the 2023-24 season, they will not make it out of the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs.

Lillard’s pairing with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo is about as sexy as it gets, but it was the Heat’s depth that played a crucial role in their successes in recent years. And that depth would be traded away to land the Blazers guard.
