Some of the highest rated players for the Detroit Lions roster in Madden ’24 are from their offensive line. This shouldn’t surprise anyone as the Lions have had one of the top ranked offensive lines in football over the last two seasons.
Going into this year, many experts and data analyst companies such as PFF or Sharp Football have them ranked as a top-5 unit in the NFL. That’s to be expected after the Lions rushed for 2,179 yards last season (11th best in the NFL) and 23 rushing touchdowns (3rd best in the NFL).
Pretty impressive considering that quarterback Jared Goff is far from mobile. But to further my point, the Lions offensive line gave up the 2nd fewest sacks in the NFL in 2022 with only 24 sacks allowed. The expectations for this Lions team and offensive line have grown year-after-year since head coach Dan Campbell took over.
They commit to running the ball and their offensive lineman look to bury defenders every chance they get. Much of that tone gets set by right tackle Penei Sewell. For Sewell, he’s rated an 86 overall and his run blocking rating of 92 is 7th best in the game.
Despite dealing with a toe injury in 2021 and having it bother him for all of 2022, the Lions top rated offensive lineman is Frank Ragnow with a rating of 88 overall. That rating makes sense as Ragnow was recently ranked as a top-3 center in football. While he did start in 16 games last season, it’s expected that he’s fully healthy for 2023 and will be a key piece to the Lions success upfront.
As for the rest of the Lions offensive line, here’s the overall rating for each guard, center and tackle on the team:
Overall, this Lions offensive line is the best that we’ve seen in quite some time. With players such as Graham Glasgow, Germain Ifedi and Halapoulivaati Vaitai, you should have some flexibility at right guard when you play the game. Fortunately, you’ll find consistency with players such as Taylor Decker, Jonah Jackson, Frank Ragnow and Penei Sewell up front.
