Report: Dallas will host SEC media days in 2024

The SEC’s annual media days are moving to Dallas in 2024, marking the first time the event has been held in the Lone Star State.

The SEC’s annual media days have officially found a new home for 2024, and it coincides with a handful of historic firsts for the conference.

Commissioner Greg Sankey made the announcement that the 2024 media days will be held in Dallas at the Omni Hotel downtown. The announcement backs earlier reports from the likes of Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, whose sources indicated that next year’s SEC media days would be held in Dallas, marking a number of firsts for the festivities.

It will coincide with the first year in which Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC, expanding the conference from 12 to 14 teams, and additionally will be the first time the event has been held in the Lone Star State. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is also home to the Big 12’s media days, with the conference having held its annual media days last week at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Before Nashville played host to this year’s SEC media days, the event was previously held in Atlanta at the College Football Hall of Fame and the Omni Hotel, as well as in Birmingham at the Wynfrey Hotel.

We’ll assume McMurphy included a typo when mentioning the “Longhorn State” in his tweet, but the minor slip-up nonetheless sheds light on what should be a fascinating spectacle in Dallas next year.

With the SEC moving their media days to the Lone Star State, coincidentally in the first season Texas joins the conference, there are already off-hand comments being made on social media that the Longhorns are already the “top dog” in the SEC. The chatter should only add to the anticipated press conferences from head coaches Steve Sarkisian and Jimbo Fisher, with the latter already echoing his excitement for renewing the Lone Star Showdown in 2024.

This year’s SEC media days kicked off on Monday, July 17, and will run through Thursday, July 20 with each program speaking to the media at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Nashville.
