Yan Gomes records one hit against Nationals

Former Vol records a single for the Cubs against Washington.

Washington defeated the Cubs, 7-5, Monday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

Former Vol Yan Gomes went 1-for-4, recording one single and one walk for Chicago.

The loss is Chicago’s second consecutive.

Gomes played at Tennessee from 2007-08 before transferring to Barry University.

Gomes has a .258 batting average, eight home runs, 29 RBIs, 49 hits, four doubles, 26 runs and one stolen base in 2023.

He won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019. The former Vol was an American League All-Star with Cleveland in 2018 and won a Silver Slugger Award in 2014.

The Cubs next play Tuesday versus Washington at Wrigley Field. First pitch is slated for 8:05 EDT.
