Arkansas deputy athletic director named NCAA Basketball Committee Chair

Derita Renee-Ratcliffe Dawkins had already helped turn the NCAA Tournament bigger than ever.

Arkansas deputy athletic director Derita Renee-Ratcliffe Dawkins was named chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee for the 2024-25 it was announced this week.

Dawkins has been on the committee since 2020 and will serve as the 23rd chair in NCAA history. She’s the first person from Arkansas to be in such a position.

Dawkins serves as the assistant vice chancellor and chief diversity officer for the university serves as the administrator for women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s cross country and track and field. She has worked in athletics for more than 20 years.

The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee reviews recommendations concerning championship administration. These duties include tournament team selection and site selections. The committee oversees selection of the 32 teams that learn at-large bids for the NCAA Tournament.

“I am deeply honored that my fellow committee members felt me worthy of such an important responsibility,” Dawkins said. “I have approached this commitment and responsibility as an opportunity to honor my mother Nina Ratcliffe’s life and her love of college sports. This appointment would be a wonderful culmination of this meaningful opportunity to serve the industry and to honor my mom.”
