The Brooklyn Nets had a roller-coaster of a 2022-23 season that saw them finish the regular season with a 45-37 record despite trading away franchise cornerstones in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. However, despite last season being a success given the circumstances, there are some who believe that the Nets will be worse in 2023-24.

According to Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report, Brooklyn is one of the teams in the league that are destined to be worse this upcoming season than they were last season. Hughes argues that while the Nets finished last season with a winning record and made it to the Eastern Conference Playoffs as the sixth seed, he cannot credit that success to the core that Brooklyn finished the season with.

The trades of Durant and Irving provided the Nets with four new starters that were trying to gel in terms of chemistry while trying to win games at the same time. Brooklyn had a 13-15 record after the trade deadline and in the playoffs, where they faced the third-seeded Philadelphia 76ers, the Nets lost the series in a sweep despite having a good chance to steal Game 3 at home.
