The Chicago Bulls were super active this summer. The offseason has only been going on for a month, but the Bulls have already made plenty of moves. They brought back Nikola Vucevic and Coby White on new contracts, and they signed Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig in free agency.

But there is still room for the Bulls to make more moves. The most obvious things they could do is continue to attack free agency and explore potential options on the trade market. There are also some internal things they could get done, including one move involving DeMar DeRozan.

As noted by Daniel Greenberg on Twitter, DeRozan is eligible to receive a contract extension from the Bulls.

“Today is the first day that DeMar DeRozan is eligible to sign a contract extension with the Chicago Bulls.

DeMar can sign up to a four-year, $179 million extension with the Bulls,” Greenberg tweeted.

DeRozan is fresh off a second straight All-Star season in which he averaged 24.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 50.4% from the floor and 32.4% from behind the 3-point line.

DeRozan is a solid player — an All-Star. But with the new collective bargaining agreement in place and the current state of the Bulls roster compared to the rest of the Eastern Conference, paying DeRozan that much money for that many years might not be the best decision for Chicago’s future. Remember, the veteran will be 34 years old by the start of the season.

The Bulls should definitely bring DeRozan back, but not for that much money. Or they could explore trade options for the veteran this year. They just can’t lose him for nothing.
